Thank you for taking the time to watch A Race in the Sun - my debut short film as a director. Through this film, my goal was to capture the spirit of a remarkable individual whose journey shattered preconceived notions and inspired a generation. In 2021, Ayesha McGowen became the first African American female to become a professional road cyclist at the age of 34, yet very few people know that she exists. The film's narrative is interwoven with her personal reflections, capturing the vulnerability behind her triumphs and the lessons learned from her setbacks. Through her words, we gain insight into the challenges she faced, the sacrifices she made, and the unyielding support she received from her loved ones (particularly her grandmother).
