Filmmaker Statement

I directed “About Alice, after an experience my wife and I had last year when someone stole our plant! We bought a palm tree when it was teeny tiny 12 years ago and have maintained it and cared for it like it was our child. Our dream was to plant it in our yard when we buy our first home. We were so angry and in disbelief when we found out it was stolen. It was heavy! We didn’t know what to do. And the police were not helpful at all, even though we had a Ring video of the thief! So, I thought it would be a pretty funny idea to have a character who solves a crime with the lowest stakes possible, but treats it like it’s a case on Law & Order: SVU. I knew this could not just be done as a simple joke. Our character, ALICE had to be played grounded and real. She had to be a flawed person and have a human story we could tell. This way she would be someone we could all relate to and empathize with but also laugh at.
