Filmmaker Statement

My all-time favorite television show, "Martin," starring Martin Lawerence, had its 30th anniversary this year. I recently watched a movie based on the I Love Lucy television series. So I came up with "Ambitious Intentions." I wanted this couple to be from the South because, despite my being born and raised in Oklahoma City, I spent a lot of time in Texas throughout my adult years. The majority of this couple's story takes place in each of their apartments, thus we created two distinct set designs in 2 separate apartment locations. Additionally, I wanted to give the audience a sense of a 90s television sitcom, so I decided to make Marcus's apartment look like a real boxer heavy. You can see posters of legendary heavyweight boxers there, but Marcus is actually a light weight(lol), so I wanted that to be a representation of how he views himself. I wanted Ava's apartment to have a positive, laid-back feeling that sort of reflected her personality as a compassionate person.
