Filmmaker Statement

We loved the venn diagram of sightloss, running and punk that this film offered us. Yes, we made the film to help Phil raise money for a great cause, but we also saw it as a chance to raise awareness of the spectrum of sight loss. It's not as black and white as "blind" or "sighted", there's a huge range of visually-impaired and partially-sighted people and Phil's story offers us the opportunity to explore that. The film is deliberately disorientating at times, to encourage the audience to view the world through Phil's eyes. We experimented with a series of bespoke mounted camera angles to embrace the physicality with which Phil experiences the world. We combine the footage with a scrappy photocopied aesthetic driven by his passion for punk and his DIY never-say-die spirit. Ultimately we aim to bring inspirational stories to the world.
