Filmmaker Statement

I had noticed, in conversations both among friends and "online," a palpable hunger for romantic comedies reminiscent of the late '90s, early 2000's sensibility. I had been feeling it too, a craving for that safe embrace and joy of a romcom with a warm aesthetic and a romance arc where everything "works out," an escape from the modern-day iPhone/Hinge/brainrot hell that we romantics often find ourselves in. I set out to explore the possibility of creating a version of that with And They Were Roommates.
