Filmmaker Statement

Blauw Films aspires to create original IPs independently. Apple Rot is our first 3D animated horror film that kickstarts this journey. What started as a nightmarish experience of sleep paralysis evolved into an exploration of price-inflation and temptation. Apple Rot aims to place the viewer inside of a sleep-paralysis experience. Through a combination of surrealist sequences and a POV camera we aimed to create a highly subjective horror experience. That after the climax, still leaves you with an after-shock that seamlessly leads into being able to watch the film again. From both an artistic and technical aspect there were many areas we wished to explore. Could we bring to life the demonic entities that we'd been exploring in traditional paintings? Could we create a sense of uncanny discomfort while openly displaying the danger that is coming towards the viewer? All while creating a film that is equal parts rewatchable and entertaining.
