Filmmaker Statement

During the Covid-19 pandemic, loss has been at the forefront of many of our minds. After losing two of my grandparents during the past year, discussions of death and coping with loss has been very prevalent to me. In summer of 2021, I wrote and directed my first feature film titled, Let’s Meet Halfway which follows the story of a couple in a long distance relationship that meet once a month in a rural town between them. The film explores the experience of falling out of love, or rather, the gradual loss of someone who is still alive just no longer in the life of a person they once loved. I wanted to take the theme of loss a step further in At Last Deserted by exploring the sudden, unexpected loss of someone; a loss that cannot be foreseen and in turn, must be confronted alone. I hope that At Last Deserted will help shine a light on the often unaddressed universal experience of grief.
