Filmmaker Statement

This is a film that's near and dear to my heart. I was always one of those kids at the parties, a little embarrassed to dance or impress the girl I liked when her favorite song would come on. Being Dominican and a filmmaker, to me, these stories don't often get shared on screen. I was in love with movies like "Dirty Dancing" and the "Step-Up" franchise. The world of dance in many ways brings us together. Often people fall in love through it as well. "Bailando" is a love story about two twenty-something Dominicans who begin to fall in love through the musical genre of Bachata. This is a love letter to my family, my friends, and the people whose day gets a whole lot better when they are at the party and Aventura comes on. We hope you enjoy this film as much as we enjoyed making it. Thank you.
