Filmmaker Statement

Binned Off is my first film. Having been a writer for the past ten years, I wanted to challenge myself to tell a story with visuals instead of relying on dialogue. It started with a clear image of the reveal in my head involving a croissant, and I built it out from there. I'm a big fan of magical realism, and I enjoy using it to explore contemporary concerns. Dating apps have become the de facto way to meet people, and I wanted to play with the fact you never really know who you're meeting up with on a date - there's always a risk involved - coupled with the disposable way people treat their matches.
