I’had never used stop-motion in my life, but I thought it could help me tell a story of our times in quite a peculiar way. It took me two months of hard work and thousands of pictures to complete the movie, but in the end it’s been the greatest film school I could ever hope to attend in my life. Since I made it with a phone camera, I thought it would be fair to respect the phone camera aspect ratio. Besides our phone is our main contact with the world outside, is the way our politicians express theirselves each day. Our prior link to the theme of the story. But there’s another reason. A reason connected to the sense of disorientation, of subtle discomfort, and claustrophobia we feel when we look at a vertical image projected on a horizontal screen. I think this makes the viewer empathize with the same sense of despair and disorientation of the little tank of the story. Of anyone who is forced to leave something familiar and reassuring.
