Filmmaker Statement

As directors who grew up on on the music videos of MTV Base, we asked ourselves: Is it possible to mix a music video, photoshoot aesthetic to a French New Wave inspired anecdotal story? It is hard to find a short film made in the UK whose focus is the back seat of a cab for over 10 minutes. We wanted to see the two characters fully for the whole journey. Our wide shots had to feel as if we were watching passengers in a spacecraft. We wanted a wide shot similar to the wide Wong Kar-Wai uses in, ‘In the Mood for Love' and ‘Happy Together’. Cab Ride’s lush colour palette will be a mix of blues, deep pinks and reds is a testament to the respect we have for the stories we want to tell. Our world is allowed to look beautiful whilst feeling real and relatable.
