The making of this film made me confront what I believed it meant to practically and realistically raise awareness for women’s safety, as well as explore what it meant for the ones left behind, for whom that was too late to do for their loved one. There is clearly an ongoing issue of women feeling unsafe at the hands of men, both publicly and domestically and so it felt important to compile research and lived experiences to tell a story that was built on truth and honesty. I was lucky enough to have the organisation, SafeUp, onboard for being credited in my film to ensure women had resources to access after watching the film. MakeItMandatory is also credited and is a new campaign I am a part of, all about calling on the government to have compulsory lessons about domestic abuse and coercive control in sixth forms and colleges.
