Filmmaker Statement

Cherry Cola is my first short film. I wrote it while living at home, caring for a sick parent and working different day jobs while trying to figure out what my life meant to me. I used the internet and books and various production assisting jobs to learn film-making. I crowd funded from my community and from Tinder dates. Everything in my life and in the world has changed significantly since I finished this film. But I tried to capture a feeling that I hope never to forget: walking around the mall in your town, thinking your life will start when you leave, when you go somewhere else, when you become rich and powerful and successful enough to subvert the limitations of your gender. Not realizing that this is your life, it has begun, it is right now.
