Filmmaker Statement

I originally intended to make a short sc-ifi film about a man stuck in a time loop but this one got away from me. I decided to make this sci-fi film on a whim whilst visiting family in Spain, so I just shot a bunch of sequences/scenes and tons of B-roll, figuring I'd cherry pick the best ones to write a narrative to when I got back home. (It was also a chance for me to learn how to use my camera.) When I got home, I pieced them all together on a timeline and suddenly realised that what I was watching was myself. It was like seeing, through someone else's eyes, the way I behave when I'm suffering a particularly bad round of depression. It rocked me a bit. From there, it was clear where the story needed to go. They say write about what you know. So I did. I wanted to write something that would feel empowering to anyone feeling the crushing helplessness of depression. This is what came out. My first film, 'Circles' A film about hope for the hopeless.
