Filmmaker Statement

A teenage Catholic girl has been dreaming of 'unnatural passions' and feels she must confess to her school priest. As she stumbles over her carefully prepared speech, choking on words that do not ring true, she learns the delicious joy of owning her desires. Director’s Statement Confessional is a micro short film written by actress Miranda Horn whom I previously directed in my short film Pillow Talk. I was very excited when I first read the two page script, despite it being very short it was packed with intensity and drama. The fear, nervousness and joy that the lead character was feeling leapt off the page. I enjoyed the challenge of working in a small confined location. Filming in a real Catholic church and a real confessional added to the authenticity but also brought its own logistical challenges. Filming in one single day in script order however made the ending and the freedom that washes over the girl more intense.
