Now Available on PBS! Watch "County" here: pbs.org/show/county/ “County” is an idea that grew from my experiences as an activist in New York City. After a few years of organizing for political campaigns, I learned about an obscure elected office called County Committee. In the midst of the pandemic, I decided to get involved and run for it myself—and I won! It was not until I attended my first (and only) meeting as an elected County Committee member did I see a story worth telling. The blatant suppression and incompetence that I witnessed there was astounding—and needed to be shared. There is a reason the political parties in America, Democratic and Republican, don’t want you to know about County Committee, and this film looks at the who, the why and the how of modern-day party machines. I encountered fascinating characters in the activist circles that were fighting to unveil and reform this corrupt system—and they ultimately drive this story of local level politics run amok.
