Filmmaker Statement

Crumbs is a personal film for the filmmakers, drawing inspiration from their father's difficult childhood. The story follows Shylo, who conjures up an imaginary clown named Crumbs to cope with his abusive father and the loss of his dad. Set in the 90s, the film portrays warm and brighter tones before Shylo's father's death and a colder, darker world afterward. The film explores the cycle of abuse and the importance of breaking it, as well as the sub-theme of grieving for a parent. Although the themes are heavy, the film adds humor to lighten the mood. The filmmakers hope to leave the audience wondering whether Crumbs helped Shylo break the cycle or started it.
