Filmmaker Statement

My path to Jericho began with Bernadette. I was drawn to this character like a moth to a flame. She’s beautiful and wild and unstoppable and alone. She will not lower her expectations for the universe, and because of it she’s been abandoned to die on a desert road. We close the film hovering between choices and answers, and by offering you a feeling, an insight, a chance to share her plight: always wanting, never getting. This is not a conventional woman. This is not a conventional film. Does she actually know the mysterious strange? Is he God? Death? Her former lover? Was it all a mirage? There are no easy answers here, for her or us. Bernadette wouldn’t want it any other way.
