My short ‘Dear Dad’ ripped my heart out multiple times. I didn’t grow up with a loving and caring father like the men in my short. Shooting tender moments of dads and their beloved kids was painful, it was all I wish I had with my own father. With this film, I channelled my trauma into celebrating those men that strive to be an emotionally present father figure. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to experience that good fathers do exist. Whenever I mentioned the film, complete strangers from different walks of life opened up to me with heart wrenching stories about their own fathers. It helped to start a conversation about fatherhood that is often overlooked. Being able to deeply connect with people through the film is the best part of this project.
