Filmmaker Statement

In the aftermath of the withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021, refugees were fleeing in large numbers, sometimes with nothing but clothes on their backs, to find safety in America. Recognizing the decades long struggle that Afghans had endured, I wanted to work on a short film with a fast turnaround to share the story about these refugees. While Zarmina appears to speak to other Afghan refugees, in reality, the audience is us, those who are not refugees, to be able to truly understand who for so many Afghans, life can be so unstable.
