Filmmaker Statement

Jessi Case began writing this story years ago, loosely based around experiences had by some young women close to her. In 2023, when she approached me to direct it, I immediately connected with the concept of showing a young woman's internal struggle when faced with making such a life changing decision without the luxury of time or preparedness. Especially now, when it seems like the right to choose is falling further and further away from us, it feels important to humanize the mental and emotional burden women take on. We then shaped the script around the adage of living "one day at a time" and situated Delilah's personal journey at that precarious moment in life that immediately precedes adulthood. We were inspired by the work of Andrea Arnold and the 2022 Michael Morris film, "To Leslie" to create a raw and intimate portrait of our main character.
