Filmmaker Statement

I made this movie as I was inspired by the parallels between current AI Generative filmmaking and silent films. Last year my AI animated movie “Pounamu” screened at a few festivals and won some awards, and I have since been looking at ways to better integrate the developing technology to tell stories. A problem I see with many of the current films is a limitation in performance control and character/location consistency, so this project and story was an attempt at tackling this issue. Much of the AI movies made right now consist primarily of pretty visuals, relying on voice-over to carry the story, so I wanted to follow in the footsteps of early filmmaking efforts and attempt to tell a story WITHOUT any narration.
