Life nowadays often feels like a race against the clock. Time seems to pass faster than ever before. But why? This is a question I often ask myself. I feel that the amount of work I have to do is increasing, a lot is expected of me and all in a very short time. More and more, I feel that 24 hours is not enough to get all the daily tasks done, including having a healthy number of hours of sleep. Both young and old people experience time as too fast and there is a certain collective fear of a 'lack of time'. What is meant by this? What is there not enough time for? On average, we live much longer than our ancestors. In the 19th century, life expectancy was often no more than 40-50 years. We live longer and yet we have a sense of not having enough time. I illustrate this feeling of 'lack of time' and increasing pressure in my short film Escaping the Rhythm of The Clock by repeating the same daily routine in a loop. The film illustrates how a disconnected teenager deals with the loop.
