Filmmaker Statement

Evenveil has been a dream project for a long time, its characters and world originating during my years in film school. It has become my way to touch on aspects of my life and career, using the fantasy genre, and explore wider implications of the tropes surrounding fate and destiny. In the film, Kaeja undergoes a ritual that alters her consciousness of past and present, while paving the road to her future – in many ways, Evenveil has done the same for me. Getting to realize these environments, characters, lore, and mysteries has been an immense joy, and I’m eternally thankful to my cast & crew for bringing their unequaled talent to this project. -- Sam Balcomb
