Filmmaker Statement

Fortunale is a film that centers around a concept rather than a conventional narrative. While it tells a story, the true focus lies in exploring an underlying idea: the delicate balance between creation and destruction. In the film, the main character draws a boat within a painting, only to later erase it. This act symbolizes the dual role of a force that both breathes life into existence and becomes the cold gust that sweeps it away. It is a reflection of the inherent tension between the act of creating and the inevitability of dissolution. The title, Fortunale, is inspired by the name of a type of wind that embodies this duality. It’s a powerful natural force, one that gives life and nurtures growth, yet also has the capacity to bring destruction. Through this film, I aim to capture the paradox of this force and invite the audience to reflect on the cyclical nature of existence itself.
