Abusive relationships are often seen in movies, but nobody talks about abusive friendships. Friends can manipulate, emotionally and mentally abuse, and break up. When we make friends, there’s this belief that we’re going to be there for each other forever, that this relationship will never change. This makes it all the more difficult when there is abuse– difficult to address it, understand it, or walk away from it. As someone who has experienced these complicated dynamics, I wanted to explore this relationship on screen through the horror genre. Similarly to their environment, many may see the girls as two great friends, but upon closer look, finally notice the horrors in the way they treat each other. These relationships are common, and this film serves as a way to shine a light on them. While reminding those with allergies to always carry their epipen.
