Gina is a look at the transformative power of unconditional love, especially when living through difficult circumstances. Addiction has touched the lives of some of those closest to me & I'm often frustrated by its depiction in the media. So often people struggling with it are presented to us as selfish, bad or simply a victim of their own choices. In my experience, this is so far from the truth. I was, & still am, humbled by Gina’s desire to take in & care for animals without homes, even when she herself did not have a home, at least by most people’s definition of one. I hope this film challenges the notion that a person experiencing homelessness is inherently unfit to care for a pet. I hope it highlights the deep need in all people for unconditional love & the importance of any source of it when living a solitary existence, suffering from addiction &/or dealing with trauma, as is often the case for people without homes.
