Filmmaker Statement

Tim Goldrainer is a magnetic presence on stage. For nearly 40 years, with his wild on-stage antics and outlandish costumes, he's dazzled audiences as the front man for The Menus. So when I learned that this life-long rocker also performs at dozens of nursing homes all over the Cincinnati, Ohio region - bringing the exact same energy he brings to his shows with The Menus - I knew I had a story to tell. There's an unambiguous sadness to nursing homes. It's the place where once vibrant, full lives are tucked away and sometimes forgotten, left to live out their waning days. Tim experienced this with own mother, watching her slowly succumb to dementia. That's when he realized he could be of greater use than he ever imagined. An entertainer all his life, Tim set out to bring joy and entertainment to a community often left unattended to in that regard. As he says, "Why would they not deserve it?"
