It’s a head scratching time for ordinary people observing politics at the moment, on a global level and especially here in the UK. It strikes me that many of our leaders view politics as a game to be won. This film was a chance for us to critique those in power who are more concerned with outmaneuvering each other and ploying for populism than achieving anything of substance for the people they represent This is a fresh, modern, contemporary take on Victorian England. Not a stuffy, drawing room drama, but something raw, entertaining, bawdy, and hopefully hilarious. As such, we wanted diversity to be at the heart of this project. We employed colour blind casting which enabled us to open up three main parts to people who may not traditionally considered for such a period setting. If this film is successful, after people’s smiles have faded, serious questions will emerge. It’s a bit disturbing that not a lot’s changed in a broken political system since the nineteenth century.
