I wish I could say this film had more of a positive origin story, but honestly it was borne out of a crushing professional disappointment I had last year! Feeling deflated after a long-standing project was dropped, I felt a really urgent sense to see something I'd written become tangible. I realised I'd been a professional writer for three years yet had sparsely heard my words said out loud! Luckily, my brilliantly talented friends Mary Beth and Edward were also looking to make a short, so I wrote this very silly script and the ball started rolling from there. More than having any big moral or message, I had two aims for this short: for it to be funny and surprising. Nathan Foad happens to be both my best pal and the funniest man in Britain, so writing a character for him that I knew he'd nail was a fun challenge to set myself too. Basically I just wanted to remind myself that writing could be fun, and I didn't need to sit around and wait to see something I'd written be on screen.
