Filmmaker Statement

The world watched in dismay. Leaders, commentators and civilians alike have been left paralysed by the scale of Vladimir Putin’s assault on Ukrainian freedom. While news feeds were once filled with harrowing imagery of fleeing families, insights into political turmoil and rippling economic consequences back home, the identity of those most impacted, other than their pain, felt lost. We set out to make this film to celebrate our similarities, telling stories that connect our worlds and disassemble any illusion of us and them. By laying bare our collective drives, our sense of purpose, feelings of fear, love and laughter, only then can we move forward with compassion.
