Filmmaker Statement

Everyone appreciates an inventive cover of a classic - and this season I wanted to pay homage to a controversial but memorable moment of cinema and recreate the infamous Basic Instinct interrogation scene for the Halloween edition of Paper Magazine. Having watched the evolution of Christine Quinn from reality tv star to Balenciaga muse, I felt she was the perfect person to channel the Sharon Stone character Catherine Tramell. Having just written her own self help book ‘How To Be A Boss Bitch’ I loved the parallel of Sharon’s character discussing her book in the interrogation and knowing Christine had just become an author. I replaced Michael Douglas with the magnetic energy of the performance artist and top model Jazzelle, known as Ugly Worldwide, to create a sense of duality in the scene. The light and the dark, yin and yang - good verses evil. The film is my love letter to glamour and camp culture. I want people to take the film seriously and simultaneously not seriously at all.
