Filmmaker Statement

I've never had a knack for social media. This can feel especially pressing in a time where it's seemingly advocated as a necessity that filmmakers and artists of all kinds should and must be utilizing it to further their career - which, don't get me wrong, is totally fair and justifiable. But it just never clicked for me. “Am I doing something wrong?...” That, compounded with seeing things online like a little kid becoming uber-famous and captaining a whole social channel, or a grandma having millions of followers for her hilarious pranks on college students - all of these pages that are clearly not run by the central figure, but maybe a family member, maybe even a corporatized entity. I've always looked at these “characters” like, "Do they even wanna be doing this?..." All of the confusion and all of the frustration compounded to make my newest short film, "Help, I'm Smiling!"
