We wanted Hungry Joe to strike a balance between high-concept horror and British social realism. We ultimately wanted to make a film that will be uncomfortable to watch, not just for the disturbing imagery and horror iconography, but also for the queasy, socially-thematic undertones. We want the film to resonate on multiple levels, one that both hard-core genre fans and arthouse audiences alike can be affected by.
