Filmmaker Statement

I wasn’t happy with how Bi polar was portrayed, we’re not all violent machines that lead with anger, there’s a gentle, emotional and passionate side that doesn’t get depicted very often. I was initially hesitant on the vulnerability of the piece, at the time I was struggling with my bi polar diagnosis and I knew I wanted to put a large piece of myself in my graduation project, but I would lie if I said It wasn’t a challenge, not just depicting how a manic and depressive episode feels but also directing how my own disorder and sexuality looks like. Hopefully we’ll reach a point where directors and writers talk and write about their own mental health, so that we can get a rounded, accurate perspective on disorders that have previously been shed with an inaccurate and sometimes harmful representation.
