While I was cooped up at my parents’ home during Covid, I discovered old home videos taken from a camcorder that my father owned, and I decided to digitize the hundreds of hours of footage. The project created a sense of discovery and preservation, but I quickly realized that I was acting as though my parents were already dead. It felt like I was subsequently missing the opportunity to create new experiences with them. I challenged myself to make a film in my childhood home, starring my actual family. I wove the old home videos with a fictional narrative that ultimately explored my parents’ eventual death. The story is a conversation between the past and present that helps me deal with an inevitable future.
