Filmmaker Statement

While at Emerson College as a film student in 2018 and missing my mom, I realized I had never really asked her about the day I was born. I spontaneously grabbed my audio recorder and called my mom and recorded the phone conversation without her knowing and, when the conversation ended, I knew that I could mix the phone call with some of home video that my dad had recorded during my birth to make an interesting and raw short documentary that was very personal to me. A few weeks later I shared the film with my mom on Mother's Day as a gift and she was so moved that she cried. It's one of my best memories and I'm so happy that I recorded this conversation to look back on throughout my life.
