Filmmaker Statement

As soon as I started writing Instinct, it sparked a revelation within me that it is indeed possible to turn unsettling memories into humour. I have always loved comedy, so I jumped at the opportunity to create something that could help me heal from the ending of my relationship (on a side note - it is far more therapeutic than Tinder). Although the core plot of Instinct is about the break up between Grace and Marc, I also take a deeper look into modern dating apps, and why, especially as women, there are so many prejudices that are accepted because "that's just the way it is". In my work, I like to delve into topics that will spark a conversation. Subtle misogyny that we may not notice, likeable characters that say the wrong thing, unlikeable characters that say the right thing - because this is reality. The signs aren’t always obvious, and people are complicated - my main goal as a writer and director is to create characters that leave you with questions.
