The ridiculous is often the most fun to direct and I found with Jam this was definitely the case. I aimed to make a stylised film, taking inspiration from classic golden-age Hollywood musicals and horror, and to create a charming short reflective of the unusual ideas and characters presented in the story that share some ideals of that time. Jam considers the ugly sides of masculinity and femininity and the power play between them. The internal misogynism displayed in Jam is a battle many of us come to terms with growing up; being lead to believe that the masculine form and attitude is superior to how we were raised as 'women'. It was great to be able to express these experiences through the medium of film, but do so in a light-hearted way.
