Filmmaker Statement

JOYRIDER follows a 13 year old girl and her mother who move into their family restaurant when they lose their apartment. Within this space the separation between work and home collapses, pushing mother and daughter to understand each other in new ways. The story is inspired by my childhood growing up in a restaurant environment that can become a pressure cooker for relationships. This is ultimately a story about the unexpected ways that we care for one another and what we understand as love.
