I was researching a documentary series on helicopter pilots in the Australian outback and I came across a company that specialised in the use of Judas Collars and I thought, what the hell is a Judas Collar? Judas Collars are tracking devices used on a single female camel so hunters can locate the herd and ultimately kill all of the camels, which are an introduced species. The hunters leave the Judas camel alive, until the Judas finds a new herd that they can then track and kill. It is believed that some of these Judas camels eventually become aware that they are the cause of these deaths and ultimately decide to walk alone for the rest of their lives to protect their herd. It was the saddest story I had ever heard.
