Filmmaker Statement

When I was 19 I listened to an album a friend had been begging me to check out, So Divine by Horse Jumper of Love. It had the effect on me that all good music does; both bringing me into a world and helping to guide me through my own. I was living in Boston, and over the years through mutual friends and attending shows they were either at or playing, became friends with the group. Last summer I asked them to let me come on tour and shoot a documentary, Just Kidding is the result of 3 weeks I spent on the road with them. I filmed their shows every night, rode in the van, crashed on couches, and ate at gas stations. From those experiences this short documentary was born. I hope for audiences to understand what it's like to be on the road with their favorite band, and for other's to have the same experience I once had of discovering music that really means something to them.
