Filmmaker Statement

We’ve been good friends for close to two decades, first bonding over our shared love of cinema in high school where we’d create care-free short films. Largo was born out of an attempt to return to those roots—to create a short film together (for the first time since those early days) with limited resources that allowed space for experimentation and freedom. We both wanted to explore the idea of desire, fantasies, and wanting something so badly that you become blind to what’s right in front of you. Our shared love for surreal absurdist cinema and theater also came to the surface. We wrote the script with our friends, the immensely talented Alexandra Knell and Carver Koella, in mind. We established Spearmint Films as our home for shorts made in this spirit of experimentation. Largo is the first of many to come.
