The script came out of a creative black hole during the pandemic. Performing celebrity impressions for my parents and friends online was a great creative outlet, and I wondered what would happen if I couldn’t do them anymore for people I love. I thought of the story taking place over a phone call and “Last Impressions” was born. When I presented Lara Goldie with the part of Alex, she and I immediately hit it off by doing impressions of Taika Waititi and Jennifer Coolidge. I knew she was the one for the part. She ad-libbed so much and wrote her own stand-up material, that I thought giving her a screenplay credit was appropriate. This is as much her movie as it is mine. While this film deals with mental illness and death, it’s also about letting go and how to find humor in the most serious moments. I’ve never combined comedy and drama before, and it won’t be the last time. I hope you enjoy the movie!
