Filmmaker Statement

This film tells the story which 1 in 10 children face every day in Denmark. A complex, chronic disease, Lille Voksen / Adult Child turns its attention to the adjacent victims of alcoholism - what is it like to grow up with an alcoholic parent? The road towards recovery is arduous; an individual, mental battle where someone might find themselves at rock bottom before seeking recovery. As a result, children often find themselves in positions of heightened responsibility, where they’re forced to care for their parents. In fact, many recovered alcoholics claim that one of the principal reasons for their sobriety was awareness of the harm alcoholism has on children. If this film helps even just one person in their path to recovery, then it can be deemed a success.
