How many of us are or have been sleepwalking through life? How many people get up, commute to work, have dinner with friends from time to time and then do it all over again? My own sleepwalking experience happened many years ago. I was fresh out of college, had an “amazing”, well paid corporate job, the perfect boyfriend whom my parents also happened to love and felt totally adrift from myself, on automatic pilot in the world. It’s a feeling that is hard to describe. There is nothing really wrong, except for a huge chasm inside that at one point becomes too much to ignore. What I seek to explore in Lowlife is what happens when we are so distant from ourselves that we are just sleepwalking through life and what happens when this ennui comes up against our other self. What happens when there is another part of us that tries to shake us awake? Do we heed the call, even if that means ruining our present circumstances and jumping into an unknown abyss?
