Filmmaker Statement

'LOYAL' is a comedy about coffee and community, told through a suburban diasporic lens. Coming together as a community despite our different cultures and languages, especially in today's world, is the heart of our film. The film was commissioned by Talkies Community Cinema, a non-profit organisation bringing locals together through cinema. We all have loyalty cards to our favourite cafes, juice bars, donut shops. Collecting stamps for that free item. Faces that work there become friends, especially in the suburbs. Through comedy, we showcase the importance and need of community, the people in our everyday. Acts of compassion that bring us together, even in the smallest way like drawing a heart on our latte. It is a reflection of living in a city where we are side by side with many other cultures and tongues. Little words we pick up often become opportunities to connect. We’re proud to have worked with an equal gender set with cast & crew from a range of backgrounds. It
