As a child, I witnessed the pressure my single mother faced by family and friends to remarry, as a result of the difficulty single immigrant women face in achieving financial independence. I wanted to make a film that humanized a single parent household and captured the love (and chaos) that can exist under unconventional or non-traditional family households. With the setting, I intend to contribute a representation of South Florida that subverts expectations of glamour or vacation destination, highlighting the community's anxious relationship with the environment. With the camera and sound I am seeking the setting's sublime qualities, the feeling evoked by an unknown natural force with qualities that inspire awe and danger. Filming took place on location at Big Cypress National Preserve in the Florida Everglades. The cast and crew went through great lengths to capture the setting's authentic characteristics.
