Filmmaker Statement

I wanted to make this film for many reasons. I mainly create commissioned work, so it was a chance for me to dip my toe back into creating something personal. It's a very very short film that is a tribute to my dad who was a musician and guitarist. I collaborated with Jamie Caliri on the film. I created the puppets, props and designs on the East Coast and Jamie and a small team shot it in his California studio. I went out there for a short bit and animated the guitar window scene. Technically it is an exploration in translating my drawings into stop motion animation. I wanted to see how I could turn drawn textures into animatable 3d puppets, props and sets. For the 2d memory scenes I wanted to play with traditional pencil and paper animation to tie it back to the "drawn" looking puppet. Music can trigger your memory to a place and time so easily. The 2d animation is inspired by a place in Maine that was very important to my dad and family and where we spread his ashes.
