Filmmaker Statement

"Metanoia" was shot in 2019. It was clear from the start that it would be a surrealist silent film. Instead of a script, it was based on a storyboard for visual orientation. The project was shot entirely during one week in Chemnitz (formerly "Karl-Marx-Town"). To mimic the musical accompaniment of silent-films, we utilized piano and analog synthesizer. "Metanoia" comes from ancient Greek and means "change of mind". It is this change of mind, combined with the different viewpoints of a dreaming person that this movie tries to capture.
